Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In high-rainfall tropical conditions water matters as much as food — rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Apartment living with a Dalmatian Puppy

Flats are the norm in Guwahati, so indoor enrichment carries real weight — puzzle feeders, chew toys, and a resting spot away from through-traffic. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Guwahati

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Guwahati, rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Is the Dalmatian Puppy right for Guwahati?

The Dalmatian Puppy does well in Guwahati, with one caveat worth knowing up front: rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential. For a energetic, playful, outgoing, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Summer here peaks in June at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Dalmatian, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A Dalmatian has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Dalmatian puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
