The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a loyal, shy, alert dog the fit is usually good either way.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Haflong?

Haflong is monsoon-heavy — the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline — and the Kanni Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, shy, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

Health and vet care in Haflong

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the extended rainy season rather than during it. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 30°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Kanni that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
