Grooming and coat care in Tihu (Pt)

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Tihu (Pt) being high-rainfall tropical, rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Tihu (Pt)

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Tihu (Pt), rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a loyal, shy, alert dog the fit is usually good either way.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In high-rainfall tropical conditions water matters as much as food — rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Tihu (Pt)?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Kanni Puppy adapts well to Tihu (Pt) on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Summer here peaks in June at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Kanni, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
