Is the Kanni Puppy right for Satari?

Satari is warm and humid — moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips — and the Kanni Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, shy, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Satari

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Satari, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a loyal, shy, alert dog the fit is usually good either way.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Summer here peaks in April at about 37°C. That is manageable for a Kanni, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 16°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, May, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
