Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Ahmedabad

The dry summer months is the stretch that needs planning. Daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Jack Russell Terrier Puppy than intensity ever will. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Living with a Jack Russell Terrier Puppy in Ahmedabad

Most homes here are apartments and gated flats, so a small-sized breed that adapts to indoor living is a practical choice. In a city, the routine has to be deliberate — fixed walk times, a defined resting spot.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In hot semi-desert conditions water matters as much as food — daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Grooming and coat care in Ahmedabad

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Ahmedabad being hot semi-desert, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Ahmedabad is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Jack Russell Terrier needs real protection from that: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C. A light sweater helps a small Jack Russell Terrier on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Jack Russell Terrier puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
