Is the Kanni Puppy right for Chittapur?

Chittapur is pleasant semi-tropical — the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership — and the Kanni Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, shy, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep vaccinations, deworming and annual vet checks on schedule year-round.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Homes around Chittapur usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, keep water available and watch intake through the brief pre-monsoon heat.

Living with a Kanni Puppy in Chittapur

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Kanni Puppy. Owners throughout peninsular India tend to find this dog a loyal, shy, alert companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Chittapur is hottest in April, averaging 39°C in the afternoon. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 15°C, so cold is not a concern.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in September.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are June to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
