Exercise and routine through the brief pre-monsoon heat in Kundapura

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Kundapura, the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Take advantage of the mild weather with consistent daily walks and play.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Kundapura?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Kanni Puppy adapts well to Kundapura on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Keep vaccinations, deworming and annual vet checks on schedule year-round.

Health and vet care in Kundapura

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the brief pre-monsoon heat rather than during it. Take advantage of the mild weather with consistent daily walks and play.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, keep water available and watch intake through the brief pre-monsoon heat.

Summer here peaks in March at about 35°C. That is manageable for a Kanni, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 21°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
