Living with a Kanni Puppy in Idukki

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Kanni Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Idukki?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Kanni Puppy adapts well to Idukki on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a loyal, shy, alert dog the fit is usually good either way.

Summer here peaks in March at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Kanni, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 17°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
