The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Shih Tzu Puppy Brown & Black

Homes around Kasaragod usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Grooming and coat care in Kasaragod

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Kasaragod being humid coastal, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. Summer here peaks in March at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Shih Tzu Puppy Brown & Black, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 23°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from May to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu Puppy Brown & Black puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
