Is the Kanni Puppy right for Baseri?

The Kanni Puppy does well in Baseri, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else. For a loyal, shy, alert, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Baseri

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, a Kanni Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the dry summer months. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Baseri is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to July. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in July.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
