The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Living with a Kanni Puppy in Kathlapur

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Kanni Puppy. Owners in the southern region tend to find this dog a loyal, shy, alert companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Kathlapur?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Kanni Puppy adapts well to Kathlapur on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Provide shade and water during the short hot spell before the monsoon.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, keep water available and watch intake through the brief pre-monsoon heat.

Health and vet care in Kathlapur

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the brief pre-monsoon heat rather than during it. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Kathlapur is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 14°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
