Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In moderate Deccan conditions water matters as much as food — the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Exercise and routine through the brief pre-monsoon heat in Yellandu

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Yellandu, the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Take advantage of the mild weather with consistent daily walks and play.

Living with a Kanni Puppy in Yellandu

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Kanni Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in the southern region tend to find this dog a loyal, shy, alert companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Homes around Yellandu usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Yellandu is hottest in April, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 15°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
