Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cold mountain conditions water matters as much as food — crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Dogo Argentino Puppy right for Doiwala?

The Dogo Argentino Puppy does well in Doiwala, with one caveat worth knowing up front: crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter. For a family friendly, good with kids, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

Health and vet care in Doiwala

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the cold winter season rather than during it. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Doiwala is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Dogo Argentino needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A Dogo Argentino has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.
