The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Shih Tzu

Homes around Pedong usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Is the Shih Tzu right for Pedong?

Pedong is warm and humid — moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips — and the Shih Tzu is a small-sized, bold, lively, friendly breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Living with a Shih Tzu in Pedong

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a small-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in eastern India tend to find this dog a bold, lively, friendly companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Pedong

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. Moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Shih Tzu than intensity ever will. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.
