Grooming and coat care in Barkhetri

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Barkhetri being monsoon-heavy, near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a small to medium bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small to medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Health and vet care in Barkhetri

Preventive care in Barkhetri is largely a matter of anticipating the extended rainy season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the bird; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Is the Cockatiel right for Barkhetri?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, and a small to medium-sized bird feels that more than an owner expects. The Cockatiel adapts well to Barkhetri on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Summer here peaks in June at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Cockatiel: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A light sweater helps a small Cockatiel on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Cockatiel bird, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
