Living with a Dusky Lorikeet in Khezhakeno

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a small-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in the region's hills tend to find this bird a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Is the Dusky Lorikeet right for Khezhakeno?

Khezhakeno is monsoon-heavy — near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention — and the Dusky Lorikeet is a small-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Grooming and coat care in Khezhakeno

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Khezhakeno being monsoon-heavy, near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In monsoon-heavy conditions water matters as much as food — near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.
