Summers here are mild, peaking at about 24°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Red Lorikeet that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 1°C in January. A Red Lorikeet feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

No month here is easy on every count for a Red Lorikeet, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
