Veldurthy is hottest in April, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Himalayan needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: a cool room with the curtains drawn in the afternoon, a tiled floor to lie on, and fresh water in more than one place.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 16°C, so cold is not a concern.

Most of the year's rain falls in September. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Himalayan kitten, the easiest months to arrive are January, August, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
