Space and the outdoors with a Siamese Kitten

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a social, vocal, smart cat the fit is usually good either way.

Grooming and coat care in Bardez

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Bardez being coastal tropical, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Summer here peaks in April at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Siamese: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 23°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Siamese kitten, the easiest months to arrive are November to May: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
