The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the kitten approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Health and vet care in Baswa

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the dry summer months rather than during it. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Grooming and coat care in Baswa

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, a Himalayan Kittens's coat and skin want checking more often through the dry summer months. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Baswa

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Baswa, summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Feeding a medium cat here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a medium build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In hot, dry conditions water matters as much as food — summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Baswa is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Himalayan needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: a cool room with the curtains drawn in the afternoon, a tiled floor to lie on, and fresh water in more than one place.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Himalayan kitten, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
