Space and the outdoors with a Russian Blue Kitten

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a gentle, quiet, shy cat the fit is usually good either way.

Health and vet care in Devprayag

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the cold winter season rather than during it. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

Feeding a medium cat here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, keep water available and watch intake through the cold winter season.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the kitten approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Russian Blue Kitten room to move and settle in comfortably. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Summer here peaks in May at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Russian Blue: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winter nights drop to about 4°C in January. A Russian Blue copes well with cold, but a puppy still needs a warm, draught-free bed for its first winter.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Russian Blue kitten, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, April, May, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
