Grooming and coat care in Makkuva

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, a Greyhound Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Makkuva is hottest in April, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 15°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
