The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Living with a Kanni Puppy in Bokakhat

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Kanni Puppy. Owners across the North-Eastern states tend to find this dog a loyal, shy, alert companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Health and vet care in Bokakhat

Preventive care in Bokakhat is largely a matter of anticipating the extended rainy season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Grooming and coat care in Bokakhat

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Bokakhat being high-rainfall tropical, the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Summer here peaks in May at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Kanni, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
