Summer here peaks in June at about 33°C. Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 12°C. A light sweater helps a small Shih Tzu on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
