The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Jasdan

The dry summer months is the stretch that needs planning. Summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Doodle Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Is the Doodle Puppy right for Jasdan?

Jasdan is hot semi-desert — summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority — and the Doodle Puppy is a medium-sized, friendly, intelligent, playful breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

Jasdan is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Doodle needs real protection from that: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Doodle puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
