Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and arid conditions water matters as much as food — daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Is the Greyhound Puppy right for Kadi?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Greyhound Puppy adapts well to Kadi on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

Grooming and coat care in Kadi

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Kadi being warm and arid, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Kadi

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Kadi, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Kadi is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are September to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
