Living with a Greyhound Puppy in Prantij

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in western India tend to find this dog a gentle, quiet, fast companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Grooming and coat care in Prantij

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Prantij being hot, dry, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Health and vet care in Prantij

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the dry summer months rather than during it. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In hot, dry conditions water matters as much as food — daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Prantij is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are September to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
