Grooming and coat care in Una

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Una being warm and arid, summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Living with a Newfoundland Puppy in Una

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Newfoundland Puppy. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Una

The dry summer months is the stretch that needs planning. Summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Newfoundland Puppy than intensity ever will. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Space and the outdoors with a Newfoundland Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a gentle, patient, calm dog the fit is usually good either way.

Una is hottest in April, averaging 38°C in the afternoon. A Newfoundland needs real protection from that because a giant body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 15°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Newfoundland puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
