Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, keep water available and watch intake through the dry summer months.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Mudhol Hound Puppy

Homes around Vapi usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Living with a Mudhol Hound Puppy in Vapi

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in western India tend to find this dog a alert, loyal, athletic companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Health and vet care in Vapi

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the dry summer months rather than during it. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Vapi is hottest in April, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Mudhol Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 16°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Mudhol Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
