Apartment living with a German Spitz Puppy

Flats are the norm in Gurgaon, so indoor enrichment carries real weight — puzzle feeders, chew toys, and a resting spot away from through-traffic. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and arid conditions water matters as much as food — the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Grooming and coat care in Gurgaon

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, a German Spitz Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the dry summer months. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Gurgaon

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Gurgaon, the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Gurgaon is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A German Spitz needs real protection from that: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A light sweater helps a small German Spitz on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new German Spitz puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, September, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
