Apartment living with a Pointer Puppy

Flats are the norm in Gurugram, so indoor enrichment carries real weight — puzzle feeders, chew toys, and a resting spot away from through-traffic. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Gurugram

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Gurugram, summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and arid conditions water matters as much as food — summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Gurugram?

Gurugram is warm and arid — summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority — and the Pointer Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, loving, confident breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Gurugram is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Pointer needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A Pointer has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, September, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
