The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Health and vet care in Naina Devi

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the cold winter season rather than during it. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Living with a Pointer Puppy in Naina Devi

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners across North India tend to find this dog a loyal, loving, confident companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Grooming and coat care in Naina Devi

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Naina Devi being cold mountain, the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

Space and the outdoors with a Pointer Puppy

Homes around Naina Devi usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

The city sits at about 1,158 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summer here peaks in June at about 36°C. That is manageable for a Pointer, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winter nights fall to about 3°C in January. A Pointer feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are April and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
