Living with a Greyhound Puppy in Bengaluru South

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Grooming and coat care in Bengaluru South

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Bengaluru South being moderate Deccan, comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Health and vet care in Bengaluru South

Preventive care in Bengaluru South is largely a matter of anticipating the brief pre-monsoon heat. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Provide shade and water during the short hot spell before the monsoon.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In moderate Deccan conditions water matters as much as food — comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Summer here peaks in April at about 36°C. That is manageable for a Greyhound, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 14°C, so cold is not a concern.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in September.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, May, June, July, August, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
