The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Greyhound Puppy right for Devadurga?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Greyhound Puppy adapts well to Devadurga on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Grooming and coat care in Devadurga

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, a Greyhound Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the brief pre-monsoon heat. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, keep water available and watch intake through the brief pre-monsoon heat.

Health and vet care in Devadurga

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the brief pre-monsoon heat rather than during it. Take advantage of the mild weather with consistent daily walks and play.

Devadurga is hottest in April, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 15°C, so cold is not a concern.

Most of the year's rain falls in September. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, June, July, August, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
