Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Devikulam

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a European Doberman Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Living with a European Doberman Puppy in Devikulam

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a European Doberman Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a medium dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

The city sits at about 1,594 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 26°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a European Doberman that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A European Doberman has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new European Doberman puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
