The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Kondotty?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Pointer Puppy adapts well to Kondotty on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Kondotty

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Kondotty, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Living with a Pointer Puppy in Kondotty

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Pointer Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in the southern region tend to find this dog a loyal, loving, confident companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Summer here peaks in March at about 37°C. That is manageable for a Pointer, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 21°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from May to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, April and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
