The city sits at about 1,361 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 24°C in August, so heat is rarely the problem for a Kanni that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 4°C in January. A Kanni feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

No month here is easy on every count for a Kanni, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
