Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Lunglei

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. The green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Dachshund Puppy than intensity ever will. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a medium dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a medium build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In high-rainfall tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The city sits at about 1,014 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 29°C in April, so heat is rarely the problem for a Dachshund that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A Dachshund has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from May to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Dachshund puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
