Grooming and coat care in Pfutsero

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Pfutsero being monsoon-heavy, rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Health and vet care in Pfutsero

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the extended rainy season rather than during it. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

The city sits at about 2,023 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 23°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Pointer that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 1°C in January. A Pointer feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

No month here is easy on every count for a Pointer, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
