The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Barkot

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Barkot, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Grooming and coat care in Barkot

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Barkot being warm and humid, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Barkot?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Pointer Puppy adapts well to Barkot on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Health and vet care in Barkot

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Barkot is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Pointer needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 12°C. A Pointer has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
