Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Jhumpura

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Greyhound Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In humid coastal conditions water matters as much as food — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Health and vet care in Jhumpura

Preventive care in Jhumpura is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Is the Greyhound Puppy right for Jhumpura?

Jhumpura is humid coastal — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention — and the Greyhound Puppy is a large-sized, gentle, quiet, fast breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Jhumpura is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are September to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
