The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Tibetan Mastiff Puppy right for Machh Kund?

The Tibetan Mastiff Puppy does well in Machh Kund, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention. For a independent, protective, reserved, giant-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Feeding a giant dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a giant frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Machh Kund

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Tibetan Mastiff Puppy than intensity ever will. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Health and vet care in Machh Kund

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Summer here peaks in April at about 36°C. That is manageable for a Tibetan Mastiff, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and a giant body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with December nights around 11°C.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Tibetan Mastiff puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
