The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Similiguda

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Similiguda, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Similiguda?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Pointer Puppy adapts well to Similiguda on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and humid conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Grooming and coat care in Similiguda

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Similiguda being warm and humid, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Summer here peaks in April at about 38°C. That is manageable for a Pointer, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 13°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
