Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, keep water available and watch intake through the dry summer months.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Alwar

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Alwar, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Alwar?

Alwar is hot, dry — daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines — and the Pointer Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, loving, confident breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Space and the outdoors with a Pointer Puppy

Homes around Alwar usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Alwar is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Pointer needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A Pointer has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, September, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
