Is the Greyhound Puppy right for Jodhpur?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Greyhound Puppy adapts well to Jodhpur on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and arid conditions water matters as much as food — summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Health and vet care in Jodhpur

Preventive care in Jodhpur is largely a matter of anticipating the dry summer months. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Grooming and coat care in Jodhpur

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Jodhpur being warm and arid, summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Jodhpur is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in August.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
