Is the Greyhound Puppy right for Kekri?

The Greyhound Puppy does well in Kekri, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else. For a gentle, quiet, fast, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Grooming and coat care in Kekri

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, a Greyhound Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the dry summer months. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In hot, dry conditions water matters as much as food — the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Kekri is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are September to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
