Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Makrana

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Makrana, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Grooming and coat care in Makrana

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, a Greyhound Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the dry summer months. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In hot, dry conditions water matters as much as food — daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Living with a Greyhound Puppy in Makrana

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners across North India tend to find this dog a gentle, quiet, fast companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Makrana is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C.

Most of the year's rain falls in August. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are September to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
