Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In temperate highland conditions water matters as much as food — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Jorethang

The cold winter season is the stretch that needs planning. Winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Chippiparai Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Grooming and coat care in Jorethang

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Jorethang being temperate highland, winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Summer here peaks in May at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Chippiparai, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 12°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Chippiparai puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
