Is the Newfoundland Puppy right for Jorethang?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and a giant-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Newfoundland Puppy adapts well to Jorethang on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Health and vet care in Jorethang

Preventive care in Jorethang is largely a matter of anticipating the cold winter season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Newfoundland Puppy

Homes around Jorethang usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Grooming and coat care in Jorethang

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Jorethang being temperate highland, winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Summer here peaks in May at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Newfoundland, but watch it closely because a giant body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 12°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Newfoundland puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
