Exercise and routine through the brief pre-monsoon heat in Chinthakani

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Chinthakani, comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In mild tropical plateau conditions water matters as much as food — comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Chinthakani is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 16°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
